EAP Supervisor / Management Training

Use of your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a benefit for everyone. When employees use the EAP, the company can benefit from a reduction in costs associated with declining job performance, medical benefits and short term disability. Supervisors are helped by having a resource to offer employees who have problems that are affecting job performance. Employees benefit from EAP by receiving the help they need to solve personal problems before they affect their work.

To help supervisors understand how the EAP can assist them in their role as managers, a training course, EAP Supervisor/Management Training, is available at most work locations. This two-hour class is designed for any manager who supervises employees, and the course – offered at no charge to the department – explains the EAP’s role as a resource for assisting in performance management and recognizing troubled employees. Participating in the class can help improve a supervisor’s skills and confidence in using the EAP effectively.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This training program is intended for all BellSouth management employees, especially those with direct reports. The training is designed to increase the supervisor’s understanding of the EAP (Employee Assistance Program). It will focus on the EAP’s role as a resource for assisting in performance management of employees for acceptable performance. Participation in the training will improve the supervisor’s skills and confidence in utilizing the EAP effectively.

COURSE OBJECTIVES/KEY TOPICS:

The course will prepare managers to identify "troubled employees" whose personal problems may interfere with their job performance and to recognize common work related behaviors and patterns appropriate for EAP consideration. Distinction will be made between a supervisor-assisted referral and a formal referral. Managers will be given tools to assist them in making formal referrals. They will learn when and how to contact the EAP and what to expect from an EAP consultation. Strategies for meeting with employees and appropriately addressing their job performance issues will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on the EAP as a voluntary and confidential resource. Managers will become more familiar with their rights and responsibility regarding referring employees to EAP and monitoring their progress until job performance has reached an acceptable level.

CLASS LOGISTICS:

This course is designed for 20 to 25 participants and there is no cost to the participant. It is two (2) hours in length and is intended to be conducted on location or an employer specified location.  As your employer about getting supervisors/managers training for your organization.
